GEAR-RT: adapt io units

Mladen Ivkovic requested to merge gear_rt_adapt_IO into master

Adapted GEAR RT IO routines to use same units as SPHM1RT so they can use the exact same ICs.

Added a stricter check after reading ICs for unphysical situations.
